About Heaven on Hold

Heaven on Hold

Heaven on Hold is a festival attraction with one job: get you on the phone with "God". Not a hotline. Not an app. An oversized red British phone box - the kind that looks like it wandered off a postcard and had a very large lunch. The signs say Talk to God. Inside there is a real telephone, lighting that does the Lord’s work, and a sound system that makes a field in the rain feel faintly celestial. You pick up the receiver. Someone answers. They are extremely good at being God, which is to say they are an actor in a small booth nearby, ready for whatever you throw at them: the weather, the ex, the meaning of it all, or a quick theological second opinion before you rejoin the queue for chips. It is live, lighthearted, and occasionally, treacherously, a bit moving. Outside the box there is a seating area, because after you have discussed your mortal soul you may need a pint and a witness.
